Get up close with flowers and the insects that love them! A photograph should bring the audience a new experience, and we will focus on the details most people simply walk past. We will practice getting clear, colorful and interesting pictures that capture the imagination of the viewer.

As Monarch butterflies prepare to migrate, we should be able to capture them feeding before their long trek. This is also a great time for bees to begin preparing for winter by stocking up on pollen from the plentiful early fall blooms.

Holiday Street Photography

Holiday Street Photography

Saturday 19 December
Portsmouth, VA - 10am - 2 Hours
Virginia Beach Photography Group
Dawn Rykheart
Street photographers are observers by nature. They use photography as a way of connecting with the world and bringing back the moments that stand out. There are hints, feelings, ideas, stories, or questions in their photos that are meant to prompt the viewer to wonder about the rest of the story. This two-hour meetup is for all skill levels and any camera type, including cell phones. We will be exploring downtown Portsmouth all dressed up for the holidays. After a discussion on what Street Photography is and how to go about it, we will walk High Street and the surrounding area. What we find will be different for everyone, that's the beauty of Street Photography, pictures are taken from the photographer's viewpoint instead of focusing on the viewer's perspective, leaving every image up to the interpretation of the viewer rather than leading them to it.

Great event. There were only two of us, me a very beginner and another who is much more experienced than I am, and the instructor did a great job of providing the details where both of us were able to learn a lot. Mike was very knowledgeable and helpful, and I definitely benefited from taking this class.

This image was taken while out on my kayak on 26 February 26. The 54 degree air was warmer than it had been so I was happy to head out in the rain to enjoy the calm water and foggy afternoon. I do love foggy weather and some of my favorite experiences and images come from time spent in the surreal peace found in the fog.

Hello NNPG and thank you for the kind words!Since relocating to Newport News people have shared with me how special Huntington Beach and Park is for taking photos. I chose a cloudy day for pictures to try out a new filter. As I was finishing I noticed the sun rays breaking through the clouds in the distance. I was able to capture the image before the clouds closed back up. As a visually impaired person I want to share that anyone can take a special picture even on a cloudy day!Canon M 2

A scan of a print of a hallway at my High School in 1977. I was in Photography class and we were "sent out to take pictures" one day. I used a 35mm SLR Canon FTb with a 50mm lens that my Dad bought me. The film was most likely Kodak Tri-x 400. The aperture was probably wide open at a 30/sec, or 60/sec. By the time that was showing on the clock, it was the end of the day, so I must have been desperate for content because the first door on the right was the classroom. :-)I developed and print

This image is a Still Life Composition of "Berries, Wine and Grapes" that I created on a rainy day in my bedroom. I used no fancy Studio Lighting at all. My only light source was a hand-held flashlight that I kept moving rapidly. It was an experiment in Light Painting when I couldn't go outside to shoot.
